“International day”

Today was a very nice day for me… because I got to have lunch and dinner with people from different countries. =) I think the whole process of knowing another person’s culture (especially food culture… haha, such a Singaporean at heart). So fascinating!

Anyway, first we (me, Yvonne, Daryl), had lunch with this girl from Japan… her name’s Hitomi. Too bad I don’t have a picture of her this time round… haha but we will have lunch again next week! so I’ll remember to bring my camera!

Then dinner! Woo hoo! I got to learn how to bake a chocolate cake and pizza from my Italian housemate!!! Her name is Marianttonietta, I hope I spelt it correctly. It’s so long right??! Haha… a six syllabus name! Quite cool huh. Anyway, yummy! (I’m referring to the food.)

So we had dinner together along with Lina (my other housemate from Belgium who spent the first 5 years of her life living in Zimbabwe and whose nationality is actually Bulgarian) and Lorenzo!

Lorenzo and Marie!

Lorenzo is an Italian who has been to Singapore three times! Cos he dad used to work there… for a year actually. And he loves Singapore and it’s so fun just talking about the different aspects of Singapore together… hahaha, until we made Marie feel like going to Singapore too. Hahaha! It’s simply amazing… things that you take for granted, but it’s so different for other people. For example, he was gushing over the taxis – because you can flag them down anywhere and it’s cheap (for him lah… and now I’m feeling that way already. Haha!) And he was talking about unusual fruits like starfruit, dragonfruit and durians etc… and about how he must speak in a certain slang to get understood. It’s so funny! And so true! Gosh. I had such a great time. =) Oh ya and one more thing, I discovered that it was unusual for them to see me walk around in my room without slipper or shoes! It's not a normal sight/habit for them, haha.

Here’s a clip of how he had to say “Great World City” and “Pagoda” before he got understood by the taxi driver. (I did an imitation of how he said it)
